Why are Astronauts able to float around

Why is it that they are able to float around, with no apparent gravity pulling them down?
Note: It is a scientific fact that the pull of gravity gets weaker the higher you get.
So, the question is:Are astronauts able to float around because they are so high up, where gravity is so weak?
